New photo: Before lawmakers were "deceived" in March, some gave Moon a crown at the Reagan Building

The story until now: In the Washington Post today, Sen. Warner's said to have received letters in January from activist Gary Jarmin, asking him to book a Senate room for the "Christian Voice" awards -- which morphed into the Crown of Peace debacle. Originally Jarmin wanted to host Moon on Feb. 4, we're told. The Post reporters are told that that the pageant was then postponed from Feb. to Mar. 23. But that's not true.

It now turns out: The Feb. 4 event, a kind of rehearsal, was never canceled.

Yes, Mar. 23, as much as it boggled minds, was a repeat event -- the second time this year that Moon was anointed at a federal office building. As you're about to see in a photograph.

In February at the Reagan Building, Moon was crowned as an abstentee Messiah, "anointed" in absentia in a ceremony featuring royal crowns. Accepting the crowns on his behalf was his son Hyun Jin, who spoke after receiving the purple and maroon diadems pictured below (Source: Unification News):

Check it out: it's Utah state senator Howard Stephenson on the right, and Rep. Danny K. Davis on the left. The banner is similar to that of the Mar. 23 event. According to the Moon organization, 40 members(!) of Congress flocked to the pageant -- before the next month's ritual that supposedly came as such a shock.

This merry participant's account leaves no doubt as to what happened:

I felt that on this stage, in the Ronald Reagan building, what we were doing -- the crowning of Jesus, the Jewish--Christain--Muslim reconciliation -- and the anointing of our True Parents, was 100% clear to everyone in the room.

The next morning we were blessed to have Rev. Kwak, Dr. Yang, Rev. Jenkins and Rev. Flynn at Hoon Dok Hae. This was a beginning.

We were told that Father was happy and that he had accepted our offering. 40 Congressmen and 2 Senators had attended. The poison in the Dirksen Senate Office building had merely sent us into a newer, bigger and more beautiful building. We had met many congressional leaders and so many wonderful guests had attended an IIFWP program for the very first time.

We are moving forward at breakneck speed!

Questions: Who were the 40 Congressmen at the first event, aside from Reps. Danny K. Davis and Chris Cannon, and Sen. Norm Coleman? And why didn't they warn their fellow Congressmen that things were "moving forward at breakneck speed" towards one embarrassing March evening? Moreover, who booked the first room? Warner, or someone else?

And just how often do they have these get-togethers?

(I first caught glimmers of this event Feb. 6 -- many of the links in that post are now kaput, partly due to scrubbing by the Web site of the Family Federation For World Peace. Then Kit did some outstanding research.)

...Note that Stephenson said he was misled about the Mar. 23 event, even though he's pictured, above, at the rehearsal.

(This post rewritten so many times I've lost track.)

"John Gorenfeld: The first man on the Moon"
-- Ana Marie Cox ("Wonkette," Time.com Washington editor)

"Thanks to the superb reporting of John Gorenfeld on Salon.com and his indispensable Web page, Moon's shenanigans are routinely scrutinized. Maybe some of Gorenfeld's discernment will rub off on preachers and politicians."
-- Tony Norman, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette columnist

"The scene summoned the moment in Robert Graves's "I, Claudius" when Emperor Caligula declares himself a god in the Roman Senate; a fawning solon instantly offers a prayer."
-- New York Times editorial on the Crown of Peace scandal

"I am happy that our work is being challenged and improved in consistency, openness and coordination, by the accountability your spotlight demands. I am not talking about simply removing stuff from websites..."
-- Moon spokesman the Rev. Phil Schanker

"Instead of welcoming Reverend Moon, this government put me into prison. History will reveal the truth in the future and the American government and people will realize what an evil thing they did. What will they do then? They will bow down. Again, that is the way of natural subjugation." -- Moon in 1987

"A political movement basing its appeal on old fashioned patriotism and family values simply cannot justify an alliance with a cult that preys on the disintegration of the American family and advocates allegiance to an international social order operating with cell-like secrecy."
-- Rep. Jim Leach (R-IA)
